The Irish are the most optimistic about the future of the European Union.

A new Eurobarometer study published today shows that 86 per cent of Irish people are optimistic about the future of the EU.

The survey also shows that 70 per cent of Irish people surveyed believe it is not in Ireland's best interest to leave the European Union whereas 76 per cent believe that their interests are well taken account of in the EU.

Gerry Kiely of the EU office in Dublin says the Report shows that Irish people are the most content with EU membership.
