Irish people are among the lowest spenders in the EU when it comes to recreation and culture.

New figures from Eurostat show that households in the EU spend 8.5 per cent of their disposable income on culture and leisure pursuits.  

The average spend per person per year in the EU is €1,400.

Grace Bolton of the EU Commission office in Ireland says Irish personal spend on culture and recreation is close to the bottom of the EU league.
