The European Consumer Centre is reminding people that discounted items bought online do not equate to a reduction in consumer rights.

The reminder comes in the light of Black Friday today and Cyber Monday next week, the two days which generally record the highest level of online shopping in advance of Christmas.

Martina Nee of the European Consumer Centre says people who purchase online within the EU have a 14-day cooling off period to change their minds if they are unhappy with their purchase.
