The European Consumer Centre is urging consumers to do their research and pay securely when buying refurbished phones online.

The warning comes as figures show that, during a 12-month period, just over half of all refurbished phone complaints received from Irish consumers about traders based in other EU countries were in relation to delivery problems. 

Nearly one third of complaints related to goods either arriving faulty or the fault appearing not long after purchase, while in some cases phones were not delivered at all.

Martina Nee, of the European Consumer Centre Ireland, says there are several tips to adhere to when purchasing refurbished phones online.
