Compared to other EU countries, Ireland has a higher percentage of its population living in households in which adults work less than a day a week outside the home.

Figures from Eurostat show that almost one in five Irish people up to the age of 59 live in such households.

Slovakia is top of the working week with adults there working four out of five days per week on average.

Grace Bolton of the European Commission office in Dublin says that Ireland's share of households with adults working below their potential is almost double the EU average of 9.3 per cent.
