The European Commission is proposing measures to avoid outside interference in future elections across the EU.

The move comes in advance of next year's elections to the European Parliament.

The Commission will propose to establish networks to promote online transparency, protect against cyber-security incidents and work against misinformation campaigns.

Grace Bolton of the European Commission office in Dublin says the proposals are aimed at ensuring that all future elections are fair, honest and free from outside influence.
