Today (Wednesday) is 'European Day Without A Road Death.'

The EU-wide initiative is also known as 'Project Edward Day'.

Last year, no road deaths were recorded in the Republic of Ireland on 'Project Edward Day' while 43 fatalities occurred across Europe compared to the daily average of 70.

Grace Bolton of the EU Office in Dublin says Ireland's statistics on road fatalities are continuing to improve with each passing year.
