The European Consumer Centre is warning holidaymakers who have rented cars while abroad to check their statements for extra or unauthorised charges.

It says a growing number of consumers are receiving bills with inexplicable costings.

Car rental is one of the top complaints received by ECC Ireland every year with consumers often reporting extra charges made to their payment cards sometimes weeks or months after the car rental took place.

Martina Nee of the European Consumer Centre in Dublin says overcharged car renters have a number of options.
