Ireland recorded the third highest annual rise in house prices in the EU in the first quarter of 2018 compared to the first quarter of 2017.

New figures from Eurostat show that the price of property here rose by 12.3 per cent while in Latvia, prices rose by 13.7 per cent. Property prices actually fell by 0.1 per cent in Finland which was bottom of the table.

Jonathan Claridge of the EU Commission office in Dublin says however the rate of increase here is slowing down.
