The President of the EU Commission Jean-Claude Juncker is to visit Dublin tomorrow (Thursday) for a two-day series of events.

Accompanied by EU Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier and EU Commissioner Phil Hogan, he will hold talks with the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and will meet President Higgins.

The discussions come one week ahead of the EU June Summit as pressure mounts on the UK to declare its formal plan on the Northern Ireland border.

Gerry Kiely, who is Head of the European Commission's Representation in Ireland, says President Juncker will confirm his backing for the Irish position on Brexit during his visit.
