Ireland has the fourth lowest share of the population in the EU who are in arrears with mortgages and rent.

Fewer than two per cent of people in Ireland are in arrears, compared with a figure for the UK of just under four per cent of the population.

The Eurostat figures, just published, are for the year 2016.

Grace Bolton of the EU Commission office in Dublin, says Ireland compares favourably to other EU States.
