The European Commission is calling on EU States to work more closely together to devise Europe-wide vaccination plans.

The call comes as figures show that close on 15,000 cases of measles have been reported across Europe during the last 16 months.

A further 40,000 people in the EU die from flu every year.

Grace Bolton of the EU Commission office in Dublin says vaccination is crucial as signs suggest an increase in the prevalence of measles.
