The European Consumer Centre is advising Irish people going on holidays elsewhere in Europe this Summer to be extra vigilant when renting cars.

Matters are compounded by the fact there is currently no industry-specific legislation to protect consumers if they have problems with car rental.

Martina Nee of the European Consumer Centre in Dublin says there are a number of areas to be fully aware of when hiring a car.
