The statistics show that in 2017, 33 people per million inhabitants died in Ireland, compared to 47 per million in 2010.

Sweden at 25 and the UK at 27 deaths per million of population, recorded the best figures in 2017.

Grace Bolton of the EU Commission office in Dublin says Ireland has seen a remarkable improvement rate over the last seven years.
