The European Consumer Centre is urging Irish holidaymakers booking last-minute accommodation to watch out for fraudsters.

The warning comes after figures in the UK show that the average amount of money lost by holidaymakers ripped off by booking scams increased 25 per cent in 2017, with a victim typically losing £1,500.

ECC Ireland receives regular reports from Irish consumers who have been scammed or encountered suspicious situations.

Martina Nee of the European Consumer Centre says always do your research before buying a holiday.
