The number of Irish employees who receive on the job training continues to be below the EU average.

New figures from Eurostat show that less than one in four Irish employees, or 23%, took part in job-related training during 2016.

The EU average is almost one in three - or 32%.

Grace Bolton of the EU Commission office in Dublin says the low participation rate is simply because most people don't have the time.
