The European Consumer Centre is calling on traders to comply with their obligations and ensure all staff know consumers’ rights when selling goods to the public.

The advisory - in advance of World Consumer Rights Day this Thursday - comes after reports that some traders have provided wrong or misleading information on consumers’ rights when a good is faulty, or rely solely on the manufacturer’s warranty.

Martina Nee of the European Consumer Centre in Dublin says there is some confusion over where the burden of responsibility lies, and that traders and consumers need to be aware that the sales contract is with the seller who has to provide redress if there's an issue with a sold product.
