Only four in ten children in the European Union receive formal childcare.

A new Eurostat study shows that more children in Denmark and Sweden receive formal childcare than any other country in the 28 member States of the EU.

Ireland is placed at number 14 in the EU childcare league table.

Grace Bolton who is Head of Press with the EU office in Dublin, says cost is the main factor in discouraging more Irish parents from paying for childcare.
