2253: US SOCIAL MEDIA SITES TO ABIDE BY EU CONSUMER RULES

There's good news today for consumers who experience problems after buying unwanted goods on certain social media sites.

Facebook, Twitter and Google+ have agreed to align their terms of services with EU consumer protection rules.

The development means that EU citizens who have issues with the sites can now complain to Europe rather than the host centres in California.

Jonathan Claridge of the EU office in Dublin says this is major progress for Irish users of social media.
